What Point Should Separate Property Be Measured From?

I take the rare step of linking to someone else’s blog article (from the Law Offices of Andy Cook, an attorney in California, with an article about a ruling by the California Supreme Court on when the line can be drawn between marital property and separate property and, therefore, when the “date of separation” begins for purposes of determining responsibility for household bills and what is considered joint versus individual).  The address is, and this is a common-sense idea that gets overlooked by folks, for simplicity’s sake.

I have posted this link because it is something that people engaged in the divorce process should consider – especially if there was a substantial time in which they formally stayed in the marital residence but did not actually live there.
